An Elegy to Love

I was just driving home and listening to Vanessa Feltz on Radio 2. She asked if you had ever heard something that moved you so much you were rendered speechless. Then she replayed a clip from yesterday’s edition of Broadcasting House, hosted by Paddy O’Connell. It was Emilie Blanchere reading a love letter to her boyfriend, Remi Ochlik, a war photographer who was killed last year, alongside journalist Marie Colvin in Syria.

It is such a simple declaration of  Blanchere’s feelings for Ochlik,  simple and yet with such depths of love that few people must experience in their lifetimes. And it moved O’Connell so much that there were several seconds of dead air, until he managed to compose himself and finish off the show.

Blanchere uses her love for Ochlik and his love for her to keep her strong and to continue to live a good life.

Click on this link if you want to hear it but be warned… you might need to be feeling strong too.
